Enjoying the Relaxed Nightlife of Morzine

Enjoying the Relaxed Nightlife of Morzine

If you're booking into a catered chalet, Morzine has plenty to offer the holidaymaker looking for fun and relaxation. Naturally, there is some wonderful skiing available - it is in the French Alps after all - but there is more to this delightful village style resort than meets the eye.

Apres Ski

To some people, what they can get up to after they've finished on the pistes for the day is almost as important as the skiing itself. While you might find your accommodation very cosy and comfortable, you'll probably also be keen to get out and about to enjoy a little nightlife beyond your catered chalet. Morzine has the reputation of being a very friendly and fun ski resort - unlike many, it's quite traditional, and to some extent that influences its nightlife.

Something for Everyone

If you like a slightly more sedate evening out, there are some nice restaurants, cafés and bars. Some are fairly 'cool' in a laid-back way, although not exactly 'chic'. The food is great and prices range from very reasonable to slightly eye-watering, but only as you'd expect anywhere in top restaurants.

If you like a little more lively action there are two bars that have music and big-screen TVs. The atmosphere is fun and a little noisy, sometimes bordering boisterous. Both of them close around 2am, but there are two other clubs, L'Opera and Le Paradis, that stay open until around 5am. (But remember, there's a big difference in France between a bar and a club.) They have music and dancing, although the prices can be high both for entry fees (around €12 or so) and drinks once inside. The floor action in the clubs is good but fairly 'casual'. Most people tend to dress smart casual and you won't see many designer labels and party shirts/dresses.

When setting out for a night away from your catered chalet, Morzine's nightlife will be appealing to you if you like a certain calmness and perhaps a modest degree of choice.

If you prefer a slightly more riotous evening, drifting from one cutting-edge dance venue to another, you may find things a little tame. (While still fun and enjoyable!)

The resort has never had a reputation for being "out there" in terms of partying and, in fact, it has deliberately tried to avoid the worst of such excesses. It has always appealed to families or couples rather than the 16-25 hell-raiser category of holidaymaker. So, if you prefer a more relaxed and refined apres ski experience when you spend an evening away from your catered chalet, Morzine will fit the bill to a tee.
